Caring for Hawai’i’s homeless has been an issue as long as I can remember.  Some organizations have stepped up to the plate and helped these people; one of them is– Housing Solutions, Inc. (HSI).

My second week at the office as an intern, I was assigned to write press releases and media advisories.  As I started to read about my new task—a press release for HSI, I realized that I could learn from this organization.

The mission of HSI extends far beyond housing the homeless.  In addition to providing temporary and permanent housing to the homeless, HSI pairs its transitional residents with government and non-profit organizations.  This, HSI believes, will help its transitional residents become self-sufficient and move into long-term affordable housing.

Today marks another important day for HSI.  The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation donated $3 million to help fund HSI’s current housing project for the homeless located in Wai’anae.  With this money, many will be given a chance to rebuild their lives.  Housing Solutions, Inc. president, Terry Brooks, will receive the grant check at a celebratory luncheon in Waikiki, thus ensuring the completion of this housing project, debt-free.
