HONOLULU Magazine Executive Editor Kathryn Drury Wagner turned over her first book to the publisher (Watermark) two weeks before the day she went into labor with her first-born, Zoe. It was shipped to the printer the day Zoe was born. I went to her book signing this weekend and was reminded that Zoe was born four months ago. She joked that she birthed twins in the process of finishing the book just in time for baby’s arrival.
Kathryn’s book, The Ultimate Guide to Shopping on Oahu, is dedicated to Catherine Polhamus, “the kind of woman who studied astronomy and owned 113 pairs of shoes.” I love that. To read more about the book, click here.

The book signing was part of Fashionista’s Market, a regular traveling shopping bazaar featuring local designers. Watermark does a great job of pairing authors with events and themes that help match the books they publish with the right “markets.” This was my first experience with Honolulu’s Fashionista’s Market which is summarized on page 37 of Kathryn’s new book. As Kathryn relates, the event’s tag line is “fashion worth fighting for,” but the atmosphere is brisk but collegial. To learn more about it, visit www.fashionistasmarket.com.
Kathryn writes about books, food and shopping for HONOLULU Magazine. She has written for national publications such as Vegetarian Times and Shape. She is a native of Rochester, New York. (Brett Wagner, her husband, is a good friend of H&P. His recent film CHIEF, was a hit at SUNDANCE last year. Brett works on many H&P projects that require creative direction.)
